To truly experience change we must be whole. Kind of a buzz word in the marketplace today along with Leadership… The process of becoming whole is an ongoing one this side of pushing up daisy’s. We are never finished in this process, but how much we want to grow is our choice. Transformation and growth in our character and our leadership ability, requires change, adaptation, and new learning throughout our entire lives.
The problem is that most people don’t change until they have to – until the pain of staying the same outweighs the pain of doing something different. As humans, we have a natural tendency to do life our own way, on our own terms. In trying to do life our own way, we have all experienced difficulty from choices we made, (or didn’t make), or from the decisions others made that affected us negatively. Being human levels the playing field in this regard, and often limits our ability to function at our best. What if, instead of allowing your past mis-steps to keep you stuck, you chose not to allow that to define you? Maybe you have some annoying or “dysfunctional” habits in the present that rob you of your ability to maximize your effectiveness for today. Many of us, are worried about the future and that fear or worry paralyzes us from stepping out into new adventures. Our only hope for a chance at healing, wholeness, transformation, or recovery [insert your favorite term here…] in this life is to dare to live with authenticity, (sshhh…maybe even ‘vulnerability’)? Rigorous honesty is required for this to happen so that we can let go of any aspect of where we are stuck.
As we continue to learn to be authentic, lead with vulnerability, greater honesty, all translate into greater impact. These principles, if you choose to integrate them into your life and leadership, will help you become more authentic in character, to lead from the inside out — with your whole person. It may take engaging wholeheartedly, some courageous honesty, and an attitude of desperation…, but it can be done!
